A village which belongs to the La Loma y Las Villas district, located on the northern banks of the La Loma ridge, which slowly goes down to the Guadalimar river. Canena is primarily an olive producing village, since almost all of its surface area is given over to olive growing. The main economic activity is derived from this crop (the olive oil industry), with the textile industry and metal working are also quite important. It has an interesting spa with thermal springs and an impressive castle, converted into a palace by Don Francisco de los Cobos, secretary to Charles I, and the architect of which was Andrés de Vandelvira. It was declared a National Monument in 1931 and has an outstanding half pointed arch frontage flanked by corinthian pilasters. The church of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción is in the renaissance style (first half of the 16th century) and is a must, a much like the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios.
