Génave

Population: 691

Altitude (m): 833

Génave is a Jaén village located in the north of the Sierra de Segura district and most of it falls within the confines of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Natural Park. Two thirds of it is made up of uninhabited mountains, where forestry and livestock developments predominate. The remaining third is farmed land, divided up between areas given over to olive trees and others to herbaceous crops. There are also some important ecological olive groves and ecological olive oil production, produced right here in the village. Its parish church of the Inmaculada Concepción was completed at the end of the 15th century in the purest renaissance style, except for a few earlier parts which are gothic (13th century). The Torre de la Tercia, located in the village centre, which is the feudal homage tower of an old late medieval castle, is also quite remarkable.
