Bedmar y Garciez

Population: 3268

Altitude (m): 693

A village in the Sierra Mágina district, created out of the union of the villages of Bedmar and Garcíez, located to the north of the district. Its territory goes right from the Guadalquivir river up in the north, as far down as the peaks of the Sierra Mágina to the south, and so its municipal area is rich and varied both in natural spaces and those altered by man. The main economic activities are agriculture, which has traditionaly been based on olive growing, and more recently the white asparragus crop too, which have been the source of both of the olive oil production industry, as well as vegetable preserves, under the influence of which new market gardening developments have begun to be set up. Interesting architecture in Bedmar-Garciez is represented by the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, built between the 15th and 17th centuries, not to mention Bedmar Castle, which has been declared an Historical Monument, and the palace of the Marqueses de Viana.
