This is the smallest municipal town in the Sierra de Segura district, knestling within its north central sector. The village centre is situated at the very foot of Mount Peñalta and the pine plantations on its slopes come right up to the edge of the village, giving it a really special upland feel. The entire municipal area is included within the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Natural Park. Economic activity in the village depends on olive production despite the fact that most of the municipal area is made up of forests. Tourism has not yet invaded the area, which is filled with interesting natural spaces for lovers of nature, peace and tranquility. The parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, built between the 15th and 17th centuries in the gothic, renaissance and baroque styles, with the peculiarity of having come under strong influence from levantine religious building methods, is of historical and artistic interest.
