The whole territory of Hornos is included inside The Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Natural Park and it also belongs to the Sierra de Segura district. As regards surface area municipal, it is almost complety covered by forest and pine plantations take up roughly 80% of the entire territory, giving it beautiful natural areas both up on the highland escarpments and down at the level of the El Tranco dam. The village centre is sited up on a great rocky crag with a castle looming over it, and still maintains its medieval feel, clinging on to one of the streams which feed into El Tranco. The economy of Hornos revolves around tourism, forestry developments and olive growing. There are also abundant hunting and fishing activities. Declared an Historical Monument in 1985, the fortress of Hornos Castle was conquered by the Order of Santiago in 1239 and stills has their feudal homage tower.
