Situated in the western part of the province and in the middle of the Guadalquivir valley, the Campiña district is crossed by the Andalusia Motorway (to the north) and by the A-306 Jaen-Cordoba road (at the south). Its northern border, which coincides with the Sierra de Andujar Natural Park, is with the province of Ciudad Real, bordering to the south with the Sierra Sur district.

- The Campiña Area: This takes up most of the district, with outstanding olive production alternating with areas of non-irrigated and irrigated crops (Guadalbullón river plain). - Mountain Areas: Shaped like a wedge, it occupies a narrow southern fringe jutting in between the Sierra Mágina and Sierra Sur districts. Its rather abrupt relief system is formed by the Jabalcuz, la Grana, Grajales, Los Propios and La Pandera hills. - Flora and fauna: In the Campiña, native mediterranean vegetation only flowers up on a few odd hills and includes wild thyme, clumps of esparto grass and other herbaceous plants all on a very small scale. The fauna is quite typical of such areas with a noteworthy abundance of small game such as rabbits, hares, partridges, quails, wood pigeons, thrushes, etc. Mediterranean scrubland predominates in the mountainous areas, mixed in with pine plantations. There is abundant wild boar in the area, which is the main large game species.

This district depends mainly on agriculture, bound up with olive growing, industrial crops and livestock , although activities like wood furniture, handcrafts and building, including the manufacture of farm implements or clothing are also quite relevant. In this regard, Andújar and Torredonjimeno really stand out.

Municipal Centres:

Andújar is the centre of a good part of the district, although it competes with Jaén City where its area of influence are the towns anfd villages close up to the provincial capital. It has a large Mall and many shops.
