A town located in the northwestern section of the northern district, crossed by the E-05 Andalusia motorway. Its territory is very much a part of the Sierra Morena Hills as farmed land comprises a mere 10% of its total area, and that is mainly given over to olive groves. The main agricultural activities are olive growing and livestock as well as small and large game hunting. Industry and the hotel and catering trade are of prime socio-economic importance. There are a great deal of tiny hamlets and natural spaces within its municipal area, making La Carolina an area with special human and natural attractions for lovers of high risk sports. Outstanding examples of its historical heritage are the Intendente Olavide palace, which displays some colossal monumentalism typical of baroque classicism, the parish church of the Inmaculada Concepción, which was once the headquarters of the old San Juan de la Cruz carmelite foundation, the Torrecillas del Molino de Viento and the Torres de la Aduana towers, not to mention the Town Hall.
