A rather small and depopulated village in the east of the Sierra Mágina district, it is to be found in an uphill territory towards the river Guadiana Menor. Rainfall and vegetation are scarce and there is a lot of erosion, producing great big ravines and watercourses which have formed a semi-desert landscape. More than half the municipal area of Larva is given over to natural pastures, wild thyme and clumps of esparto grass, and there are very few forest trees. Almost all the farmed land is given over to barley production, and a small subsidiary olive crop. Its inhabitants' income is based on agriculture and subsistence farming, dependent on cereals, olives, capers and sheep rearing. Its parish church of San Pedro Apóstol was built at the end of the 18th century and in it the patron saint of the village, Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, which has a very simple and restrained structure, is highly venerated.
