Lopera is a village in the west of the Campiña district characterised by soft landscapes of rolling hills, typical of the olive producing Campiña district. Its entire area is one hundred percent agricultural, with olives being the main crop, although industrial scale crops such as cotton, sugarbeet, corn and sunflower are sown on the plains of Salado de Porcuna and the Guadalquivir. The local economy depends to a great extent on agriculture, supplemented by the wood furniture and olive oil production industries. There is also some anecdotal production of wine and small sailing boats. The castle, built by the Order of Calatrava and declared an Historical Monument, the parish church of the Asunción, from the last third of the 15th century with its mixture of baroque and renaissance styles, the Town Hall from the year 1605, and hermitages of Jesús Nazareno and Cristo del Humilladero, both of which are baroque, all stand out from among its rich historical heritage.
