Navas de San Juan

Population: 5155

Altitude (m): 654

Navas de San Juan is the village with the highest population in the El Condado district and can be found in its central western side. Its municipal area is dominated by farmed land, mainly towards the south, with olive trees having a notorious domination over other crops, which tend to be unirrigated cereals. The unfarmed land is dominated by pastures both with and without scrubland, on which cattle are reared, much destined for bullfighting. Pork and poultry factory farming is also quite important at provincial level. Thus, the main economic activity of Navas de San Juan is derived from olive trees, especially olive oil production, followed at some distance by livestock rearing and hunting. Its church of San Juan Bautista, built between the 16th and 18th centuries, has an interesting mannerist style frontage. There is also the interesting hermitage of the Virgen de la Estrella and the Council building.
