Noalejo is a village on the south western edge of the Sierra Mágina district which goes along a fringe of land bordering onto the province of Granada and is remarkably unique in the southern the half of the province for having the least number of olive trees in its municipal area, as they only account for a sixth of the total surface area. However, there is an abundance of olive groves on the border with neighbouring Jaén and Granada. There are some remarkable pastures, meadows and hills with oak trees in Noalejo, some of which are very well preserved. Economic activity in the village revolves around olive growing and the processing industry as well as pork processing. The main urban treasure of Noalejo, a village situated along the Granada motorway, is the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, built between 1570 and 1575; it has a traditional mudejar floor plan with a single nave.
