It is located in the north-west of the province, and is the natural access to it from the north of Spain - via Despeņaperros-. It is crossed by the N-IV road or Andalusia Motorway, and Linares stands out as the biggest centre.
Linares is the commercial, entertainment and social welfare centre of the North district, with large shopping centres and an excellent and varied range of leisure possibilites. Bailen and La Carolina are also important, due to their population size and especially due to their strategic location.
