Orcera

Population: 2258

Altitude (m): 796

A village which belongs to the Sierra de Segura district, with its area divided into two territories which are physically separated from each other: the main area, containing the main population centre, located right in the centre of the district, and another enclave out to the northwest. Orcera is mainly a forestry area, with farmed land lying to the west of the municipal area. The natural environment is rich and varied in natural spaces, in flora and fauna, and game for hunting abounds. Economic activity in Orcera depends on olive trees, olive mills, hunting, forestry developments and tourism, as this is the point of entry to the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas Natural Park. Outstanding examples of its architectural heritage are parish church of La Asunción, from the begining of the 16th century which has a basilica-like floorplan, a monumental neo-classical style fountain, and the Moorish towers of Santa Catalina, declared to be Historical Heritage sites.
