A little village located in the north of the La Loma y Las Villas district, where the typically olive grove countryside descends slowly in a northernly direction, from the Úbeda ridge down to the river Guadalimar. Its municipal area is profoundly agricultural, with olive trees being the main crop. In fact, over the last few years 85% of the farm land has been put under irrigation. The economy in Rus is based on olive growing, olive mills and the textiles industry, which is deeply rooted in the area. Rus' good road communications and the fact that it is close to Úbeda and Linares, mean that it gets a lot of business and welfare activities from these towns. The Valdecanales cave chapel, a visigothic monastery dating from the 7th century, was declared a National Monument in 1970. This, along with the renaissance style church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, are the main Historical and artistic treasures of Rus.
